On December 24th, a large number of Twitter and Telegram accounts claiming affiliation with the Anonymous hacking collective declared “OpAFG” against Afghanistan’s Taliban.
The so-called operation is being declared in response to a recent decision by the Taliban to ban women from universities.
The decision was finalized on the 20th of December, when women in Kabul found themselves barred from entering their campuses by armed guards. The move was immediately condemned by the international community.
Afghan women, still embattled in solidarity protests against Iran’s government, took to the streets to defend the right to an education that those with access have enjoyed since 2001.
As of the time of this writing, no groups we are monitoring have claimed responsibility for any operations in Afghanistan. This is likely to change in the coming days.
